Knowledge Based Systems

PAC in concert with customers, has developed several specialized acoustic emissions NDT procedures that have been adopted by various NDT industry standards bodies such as ASTM, ASME, AAR, etc.

Additionally, to facilitate effectiveness of new AE NDT practitioners, Physical Acoustics Corporation has packaged specialized systems which incorporate knowledge-based software derived from our extensive NDT field experience. These systems ensure a Level II technician can deliver precise NDT measurements and structural/material integrity determinations reliably.

System	Description
AIMS - ADTI for Bucket Truck Testing	The Digital AIMS utilizes a combination of PAC acoustic emission technologies to provide a cost-effective and technically superior way to test man-lift devices. This acoustic emission test for evaluating structural integrity is performed by applying mechanical stress to the aerial man-lift device while "listening" for acoustic emissions (stress waves) generated by the sudden movement of material in areas that have been degraded by corrosion, crack growth, etc.
AIMS - ADTI for Railroad Tank Car Testing	Acoustic emission testing provides a cost-effective and technically superior way to evaluate structural integrity of Railroad Tank Cars. Typically 24 or more sensors are mounted at strategic locations and the test is performed by applying mechanical stress to the railroad tank car while listening for acoustic emissions (stress waves) generated by the sudden movement of material in areas that have been degraded by corrosion, crack growth, etc.
Halon Bottle Inspection System	The Halon Bottle Re-certification System (HBRS) is a dedicated product, designed for testing Halon 1301 fire extinguisher spheres from 5 to 16 inches in diameter. The HBRS was originally developed by the Sandia National Laboratory, with funding from FAA's aging aircraft initiative, who contracted Physical Acoustics Corporation to provide the acoustic emission instrumentation and test software needed to automate and control the entire test station.
Loose Parts Monitoring Equipment (LPME)	LPME monitors, detects and evaluates metallic loose parts in reactor systems using transient acoustic signal analysis. Acoustic sensors/accelerometers are permanently located at strategic positions on the system being monitored (in direct contact with pipes and vessels), where loose parts are most likely to impact. The sensors detect the impact of any loose parts as they come in contact with the pipe or vessel wall.
Local Area Monitor (LAM)	For harsh environments that require hardened instrumentation, the Local Area Monitor is an excellent solution. The LAM has been designed specifically for remote monitoring of structures. The rugged LAM weighs approximately 25 pounds with one battery pack, making it portable and easy to handle.
